Lapland is a province situated in the northern most point of Sweden. With over 109,702 km2 of land, this region covers almost a quarter of the country's surface area.
The Swedish Lapland surrounds the provinces of Västerbotten, Jämtland, Ångermanland,and Norrbotten. It also borders the countries of Finland and Norway. This region is originally extended towards the east but it was later divided into Swedish and Finnish part when Russia created the Grand Dutchy of Finland in 1809.
Today, Lapland is known as a tourist vacation spot. It is especially popular for its beautiful and breathtaking landscapes filled with wide plateaus, majestic mountains, and clear streams and rivers.
During the winter, the entire land is capped with blankets of velvety snow. Tourists gather in this place to enjoy a variety of activities such as mountain climbing, snow boarding, and cross-country skiing. Traditional activities like sleigh and reindeer rides also attract guests of all ages.
Another popular attraction in Lapland, Sweden are the Northern Lights. This one of kind phenomenon never ceases to amaze visitors as it presents a vibrant light show strewn across the dark sky.
